hey austin who are we gonna draw today, jack frost yeah he's the son of father, winter we hope you're gonna follow along, with us you need something to draw with, we're gonna use markers some paper and, soldier color with all right let's start, we're first gonna draw his nose we're, gonna draw it right in the middle of our, paper i'm gonna draw a little oval shape, hey you know that could actually be one, of the eyes do you want to put another, oval shape right here that oval is a, little more, squished there you go, yeah i'm going to draw a circle just, like you did, on the left side and also over here on, the right side for his other eye, all right now let's draw his mouth i'm, going to draw a happy smile, and i'm also going to draw a u-shape, underneath so his mouth is open, and then we can also add a tongue, and then color in the top shape, now let's add small circles to the big, circles of his eyes, for the highlight, on each eye and then we can color in the, big circle but leave the little one, white, now let's draw his face i'm gonna draw a, u-shape that comes underneath, and then back up on the other side, oh i like your face, or the his chin it's chubby yeah, now we're gonna extend the each side of, his head up a little higher, yeah, then we're gonna connect the top, with a curve for the bottom of his hat, now we're going to draw his hair we'll, start over here and we're going to draw, a curve that comes down and over his eye, next we're going to take that line and, finish by connecting it to the outside, of his head, yeah now let's do the same thing over, here on this side i'm going to curve, this way, and not connect it quite yet and then, right at the end curve it down, now let's draw his ears we're going to, draw a short little diagonal line going, up, and then we're going to curve it back, down and we'll do the same thing over, here short line up, and then curve down, next we're going to draw his hat we're, going to draw a diagonal line that comes, up on each side, there you go, then we're going to draw a zigzag line, comes down, up, down up, down, and keep going until you get to the, other side, and then connect, one more there you go good job now let's, draw the very top we're going to draw a, curve that comes, over the top and then it's going to, start coming down on the other side, i'm going to draw it coming down even, further, yeah and then we're going to draw, a point at the end of his hat and, connect it into the zigzag the bottom, part of his hat now let's draw a jingle, bell at the end we'll draw a circle, and then right in the middle we can draw, another smaller circle and color it in, and then draw a line to connect to the, bottom of the jingle bell, all right now let's draw his body we're, going to draw two, diagonal lines coming out of his chin, then we're going to draw a zigzag line, for his collar, i like how you're drawing yours it looks, like a ghost, ghost yeah just like that but let's draw, the rest of his body and we're going to, draw two lines coming down, i like mine i'm dry and skinny and yours, is a little wider i think it's awesome, now it's okay that our two drawings are, different right yeah it's okay if their, drawings are different too because the, most important thing is have fun have, fun and two practice practice all right, now let's draw his belt we're gonna draw, a circle right here, in between these two lines, then we're going to connect, over to the outside, and let's extend the side of his body, down further and then draw the bottom of, the belt coming in, there you go, now we're ready to draw his pants let's, draw two more diagonal lines coming out, kind of like we did for his neck, then we're gonna draw more i'm gonna, draw these a little longer and then, we're going to draw, more zigzag lines, to connect those two lines together, now we're going to draw his legs let's, draw two lines over here and two lines, for his right leg, there you go and then two more, then we could draw his boots let's, connect i'm gonna draw a line that, connects but goes past, the two lines for his legs, yeah, then we're gonna draw two, lines coming down on each side, that looks like his boots are folded, over at the top, so they're a little thicker now we're, gonna connect those two lines, and then we're ready to draw his his, boots so we're gonna draw a line down, now this is the inside of his boot this, line on the outside is gonna be shorter, and then we're gonna connect the outside, we're gonna draw a curve it goes out and, then back end to finish, let's do the same thing on the right, side we'll draw a long line for the, inside, and then a short line for the outside, and then we're going to draw a curve for, the top of his foot and a curve for the, bottom of his foot to connect, i like your feet what are we missing his, arms yeah his arms we're going to draw a, big curve that comes down on both sides, now we're going to keep his hands really, simple, we're just going to draw a little, raindrop shape or a little u-shape at, the bottom, like that little hook, and then we're going to connect it back, up to the top, then let's add a line for the end of his, sleeve, let's repeat that over here also draw a, little hook at the bottom, and then we'll connect it up to his, shoulder, and then draw a line for his sleeve we, did awesome we finished drawing jack, frost he looks really cool except he's, gonna look even better once we do what, color it yeah we need to color it this, part we're gonna fast forward but at the, end you guys can pause the video to, match the same coloring you ready to, fast forward yeah, [Music], i said give me five you did such a great, job on coloring what's his name jack, frost jack frost he looks super cool and, i love that he's all blue we use the, light blue and the dark blue and an even, darker blue to color him in, he looks really cold yes you are, drawing your jack frost, yeah we do we hope you had a lot of fun, and remember to add more things to the, background to finish your drawing and, we'll see you later our friends goodbye
How not to get on covered on TechCrunchI launched my startup officially last week (Eureka Science News - http://esciencenews.com - intelligent news aggregator, fully automated, similar to techmeme and Google News, but with full content on the site - check out the /about page if you want to know more). I got amazingly positive feedback from it; got covered on the front page of Drupal with a full write-uo on how I built the site, in details(http://drupal.org/node/261340); Drupal is the open-source CMS I built my site with, so it was my way of giving back to the community.
After that, I figured 'hey! Maybe I actually have a chance with TechCrunch!'. In my mind TC covers only very high profile, tech-related startups, so at first I didn't think that they would be interested by a science news site started part-time by a PhD student in retrovirology ;) So I submitted my story via the form on their contact page. No answer for two days, so I submitted it to Mashable, which wrote a post about the site very quickly (http://mashable.com/2008/05/21/eureka-science-new/). Cool, but the traffic this link generated was much lower than I expected (< 200 views, Drupal gave me > 6000).
I then looked back at TC contact page and noticed a the 'newstip' email link at the top of the page; the contact form is much more visible, but now I can tell that the newstip email link is much more efficient; I wrote a quick mail about my site and the coverage that we got so far on Drupal and Mashable, thinking that it would help getting covered on TechCrunch.
This time they answered promptly; I was very excited! But they said that while my site was very interesting, they like to cover news first and that they were going to pass on this one since we got covered by Mashable, even if they love science.
It's very sad because Eureka Science News is the first vertical I used my intelligent news aggregator for - copyright-free press releases are readily available for most news published daily; I'm looking for VC funding to license Associated Press content to build a website covering all news categories. Getting on TC would have helped for sure!
So don't make the same mistake, submit to TechCrunch FIRST via the newstip email link, not the contact form! At worse, you'll get rejected and you can give the exclusive to someone else ;) I sure wish I did, now I won't know the kind of traffic TC can send (but I'm sure its more than the 200 hits I got from Mashable!). I even had nightmares about it last night, a thing you sure want to avoid ;).

Another failed ape grow. Swab said ape, fruit said otherwise. I think it's time for an agar purge and a third vendor for ape spores. Only thing I was working along side the ape was jack frost, but I was using 2 different colors of agar. New year new genetics I guess. 7
