hi i'm patti fernandez and i'm an art, teacher visit my website at patti, fernandez artist dot com, okay let's draw, today's project is how to draw a harriet, tubman composition, on the left hand side i'm going to take, three fingers and i'm going to put a dot, and from that dot i'm going to draw a, pretty good sized circle, and connect, i come down to the bottom and on the, left hand side i draw a straight line, down, on the right hand side i draw a straight, line down, i come back to the left and i connect, the two with a slightly curved line, coming back to the left right here at, this point i draw a curved line out, down off the page, on the right hand side i draw a curved, line out, down, off the page, right here at this point on the left i, draw one, two straight lines on the left, on this section right here one, two straight lines on the right, i come over to the left and i draw a, curved line out curve line in connect, come on the right hand side curve line, out, curve line in, connect, starting back on the left i'm going to, draw a big, curved line up over, down, and connect, right about here on the inside i'm just, going to draw some wavy wavy lines, on the left connect, come right about here on the right, wavy wavy line down connect, on the right, come on the inside space we're going to, draw one curved line, draw another curved line on the right, come back to the left, we're going to draw a curved line on the, top, curve line connect on the bottom, on the right hand side, curve line out curve line under, connect, i want her to be looking towards the, right so i put a hat a little curved, line on the right i mean on the inside, on the left and a little curved line on, the right, so she looks like she's going this way, now to make sure i don't forget to color, in that section i'm going to do it right, now, because sometimes we end up coloring the, other section and it looks kind of goofy, so i'm going to color this in right now, so i can see that she's looking over, here, in the center i just draw a curved line, and down below i draw a curved line, curved line curved line, little curved line underneath okay, on the right hand side we're going to, draw a rectangle, straight line down straight line over, straight line up, straight line over, connect, now we're going to mimic those lines and, draw it again straight line down, straight line over, straight line up, straight line over, connect, i want this to have a couple of straight, lines inside, so i just draw some slightly curved, lines, inside i'm going to spell wanted, w-a-n-t-e-d, underneath wanted, i'm going to write, a dollar sign and then 40, 000, because she was wanted, forty thousand dollars, dead, the ead, or, alive, they really wanted to catch her and one, of the ways they did, was by putting dogs on her so we're, going to come over here on the right and, draw a curved line down, straight line, slightly curved line, zig zag zig zag, and then underneath we're going to draw, a zigzag zigzag zigzag, curved line, inside just draw a straight line curved, line, come over here and draw a line connect, on the inside, put one dot two dots, and then little straight lines like that, he's really upset, and then one two three, straight lines to show that he's, barking, all right this is your foreground so, these are all pretty good size now, starting on the left, we're going to draw a curved line down, up, off the page, come right above and mimic that line, we're going to draw a curved line down, up, off the page, inside we're going to write, underground railroad, and i'll explain that in just a minute, underground rail, road, okay, now above i'm going to put one two, straight lines curved line curved line, connect, then i'm going to put straight lines, straight line straight line connect, above, straight line up, down little straight lines little, straight lines inside, then i go one, two, curved line curved line, one, two curved line curved line, now i'm going to draw another straight, line straight line straight line connect, straight line up straight line down, little straight lines little straight, lines connect, right next to that curved line curved, line one two, curved line curve line one, two and if you have room one more, straight line straight line straight, line connect straight line up straight, line down, straight line straight line straight, line straight line connect and if you, have room, one two straight lines and curved line, curve line okay, above that put a dot, and from that dot we're gonna go, straight line up down straight line out, in out in out in out in out in out in, connect, put little tiny straight lines going all, the way around, okay, come over to the left hand side we're, working our way across, we're going to put a circle, and then we're going to put a little, half, curved line inside, next to that, we're going to draw a little baby circle, straight line down straight line down, leave them floating, come back to the top curve line up, straight line down, curved line connect, inside straight line straight line dot, dot dot dot dot, little straight line well little curved, lines i guess going to the edge, underneath i'm just going to draw some, skinny wavy wavy lines connect, wavy wavy line connect, maybe a little one wavy wavy line, connect okay, now coming back down here to this, section here, i'm going to draw curved line baby, triangle, curve line, baby triangle, curved line, baby triangle, up here on the upper left hand, we're gonna put harriet tubman, harriet, tubman, and she was a nurse, a spy, and a conductor, on the underground railroad okay, so, this is harriet tubman she's in the, foreground so she's the biggest part, next to her is a wanted dead or alive, poster and they wanted 40 000 to capture, her because she was so dangerous to the, south, she was bringing slaves runaway slaves, up with the dogs chasing them and they, could only work at night up to the, underground railroad which wasn't a, train it's a series of houses, that harriet knew about that the slaves, could spend the daytime hours, and hide because at night time when the, north star came out is when they would, go up and try to get up north to escape, okay let's see how we're gonna color, this in, okay there is a lot going on here so, what i'm gonna do is color things in by, color so this is all harriet, so i'm gonna color this all brown, make sure you get her neck, and her ears, okay so this is all brown, the next thing i want colored brown is, my frame, on my wanted dead or a live poster so, this is going to be brown like wood, i'm going to color this brown, the next thing are my tree trunks, lining in the streets, of the underground railroad which again, was not a train it was a series of, houses that the slaves would hide out in, during the daylight hours they would, only travel at night, next i'm going to take my green, these are my tree trunk uh tops my trees, these are all green, then i'm going to take my gray and i'm, going to color in my houses now the, houses usually were, quakers which is a religion, or abolitionists they did not believe in, slavery so they would hide the runaway, slaves there okay, next i take my red, and i'm going to do harriet's bandana, that's her little head scarf i'm going, to do that red, and i'm going to come up and i'm going, to do my little triangles, up here because this shows you how they, would jump from house to house they, wouldn't stay in the same house all the, time they would make their way up north, by going to different houses, i'm going to add a little bit of red, on my american flag, she was a spy for the, union army, abraham lincoln, this is the north star so i'm going to, color that yellow, and i'm going to color my full and, waning moon that's also yellow, because they would only travel at night, i'm going to use yellow to color the, inside part of my wanted dead or alive, poster, and i think that's it for the yellow, next purple, because slaves could only wear, indigo or blue colored clothing because, it was, not expensive so i'm gonna put that down, on her dress, i'm going to, take black, and color this is her hair, i'm going to color my dog's nose black, i'm going to give my dog, i want him to stand out and you know, the dogs were trained to try and find, the runaway slaves i don't think they, were necessarily, dogs that they were just dogs doing, their job, and, my final thing is blue now i'm just, going to add a blue stripe, above, all the way across, the top section of my drawing, okay, but the bottom part i'm going to do a, light color blue, all the way down here, so this is all blue so basically if you, can draw this, composition you're also telling the, story of harriet tubman, through pictures, okay let's see what this looks like all, colored in, okay here's harriet tubman all colored, in this is the foreground, this is the middle ground, this is the background okay, okay, bye bye, do
